Kennel FAQ’s How durable is the product and what is it made of? This kennel is made of top-quality materials. The frame is made of 1” anodized .060” wall aluminum tubing. The walls are made of ¼” ABS with one smooth side and one matt-finish side. The floor grate is made of steel with an epoxy coating for durability, and the trays are of thick plastic which will last. These units are designed to last for years. We have been using them for over two years and there is nothing that has gone bad on one of them yet.
What is the puppy mat and how does it work? This is a question that puzzles many breeders because. The kennel is built using the floor grid which has ½” x 4” gaps. This typically works well with 4 to 5 week all the way to the adult dogs. Four weeks is too long to leave them in the whelping box because the mom usually quits cleaning up the excrement around two weeks. The puppies’ feet are too small at this point to let them be on the regular floor grid; that is where the puppy mat comes in. Anywhere from about a week old or so, you can take out the whelping box and zip tie the puppy mat to the floor grid. The puppy mat is gentle on their feet. The holes are small enough for their feet and yet large enough for the puppy waste to fall through. It is thin and comes in a roll.
