A Whelping Box is placed inside the kennel and removed several days after the puppies are born. A puppy mat is attached to the floor grid to keep the puppy’s feet from slipping through the grid. It allows the waste to fall through to the plastic tray below. When the puppies are old enough, the puppy mat can be removed.
Stage 1
Whelping Time
Install the whelping box and bring in the pregnant dog two weeks before she is due or before if you desire. Let her out like you would a kenneled dog.

Stage 2
1-2 weeks after puppies are born
Keep puppies in the whelping box for a couple a weeks since the whelping mom cleans the puppy waste.
Stage 3
Puppies at 3 to 4 weeks
Remove the whelping box and install puppy mat. The mom does not clean the puppy waste as thoroughly and puppies are starting to move around a little more. Puppy waste and urine fall through to the plastic tray below.

Stage 4
Puppies at 5-8 weeks
Remove puppy mat. This is typically weaning time. Feet are big enough not to slip through the 1/2” floor grid.
